October is finally here! The wind is sweeping up all those beautiful orange leaves, and as we step into the cosiest month of all, I can’t help but talk about one of my favourite things – making a house feel like a home. Does anyone else feel like autumn just gives you permission to slow down and rearrange the house for the tenth time? (not like I wait for Autumn to do that but 🙂 )
When I picture my dream home, I imagine Nancy Meyers meets English cottage. I love a mix of both worlds – warm woods like rustic brown maple and oat tones, a few shabby chic pieces that have been lovingly painted over, and of course, anything that’s been passed down through generations is always a big yes from me.

Recently, I came across a YouTube channel called DaddyStaysHome, and I’ve become completely hooked. Jon Hutman – the Hollywood production designer behind many of Nancy Meyers’ films – breaks down the interiors, colours, paint finishes, and every dreamy detail from the sets he’s worked on.
One of my all-time favourite films is You’ve Got Mail. I just adore it. There’s nothing better than curling up on my corner sofa, hot chocolate in hand, brown blanket tucked around me, and getting lost in that film. Never-ending cosiness.
Jon Hutman mentioned in one of his videos that a lot of those cosy interiors use shades of yellow – but not bright yellow. It’s more of a soft, oyster yellow that you barely notice, yet it instantly makes the room feel warm and inviting.

I tried to recreate a similar look from Something’s Gotta Give in my kitchen using the IKEA Mosslanda picture shelves, and I really love how it turned out. I went for two long 115cm shelves instead of four since my ceilings aren’t very high, and it completely changed the feel of the room. Plus, it’s so handy for displaying plates when the pantry’s running out of space!

I also found these little rechargeable lights on TikTok – just ÂŁ15 for a pair! They’re USB-chargeable, so no need to call an electrician (a total win if you’re renting). I think they’ll be perfect for the hallway – I’ll share an update soon once they’re up.
Until next time <3
